A-PAD SL, under the direction of National Disaster

A-PAD SL, under the direction of National Disaster Relief Services and the Divisional Secretariat of Balangoda, conducted a crucial field assessment in Miyanakolathenna, Eheliyagoda. Visible ground cracks over 200 meters long and one meter deep, signal an imminent landslide threat, endangering seven households reliant on daily wages and cultivation of crops like cinnamon, rubber, and pineapple. Thanks to early detection and swift community action, nine families were evacuated to safety.

🌧️ Weathering Storms Together 🌧️

Phases 02 and 03 of our flood relief project brought us to Biyagama, where floods impact families annually. On 15th July 2024, alongside Ms. Kishikawa from A-PAD and Altru Circle representatives, we distributed ration packs at Ananda Primary School, Yabaraluwa South, and to pregnant mothers in Yabaraluwa North. These areas are among the most flood-prone and impoverished in the Biyagama DS Division.

The initiative underscored the academic growth of the students, well-being of the pregnant mothers, and the overall development of the community.

A heartfelt thank you to @altrucirclex for their unwavering support and dedication to helping these resilient communities.

A-PAD SL has continuously supported Little Rose Montessori with relief packs, and school supplies, inspiring a love for learning in children.

In June 2024, Kithulgala, Sri Lanka, became the epicenter of advanced disaster preparedness as A-PAD hosted its Level-2 Swift Water Search and Rescue (SAR) Training. This event, in partnership with the Disaster Management Centre, was crucial for equipping our Level 1 civil and military rescuers with vital skills for swift water rescue operations.

Training on the rapids of the Kelani River included rigorous simulations and advanced techniques, ensuring our teams are ready for real-world flood rescue missions. The collaboration showcased the power of civil-military cooperation in disaster management, paving the way for a safer and more resilient Sri Lanka.

Ready to Rescue: Strengthening Skills, Saving Lives!

The Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Sri Lanka hosted the International Swift Water Search and Rescue (SAR) Level 02 Training for 2024 in Kithulgala from June 25th to 27th. Conducted by A-PAD Japan international instructors, this advanced training enhances the swift water rescue skills of participants from the Tri-forces, civil society, and the private sector. A-PAD ensures that our enhanced SAR team is ready to deploy in times of crisis. Participants mastered essential skills like rope techniques, swimming, and boat handling through rigorous simulations in the challenging waters of the Kelani River. The program not only adheres to international best practices but also strengthens Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) and prepares for effective disaster response. The event concluded with a certificate distribution and award ceremony, highlighting the participants' dedication and the program's impact on enhancing Sri Lanka's disaster response capacity.

In a world where unforeseen disasters can strike at any moment, being equipped with essential skills like firefighting and first aid can make all the difference. Recognizing this imperative, on the 7th of March, 2024, Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL) took a significant step towards community empowerment by providing basic first aid and CPR training to a total of 1,150 students and 82 teachers from three schools in the Eastern Province of Srilanka, namely, BT/BC Rahumaniya Maha Vidyalaya, BT/BC Macan Markar Central College, and BT/BC Alighar Central College.

The International Symposium organized by the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management in Sri Lanka on the theme “Climate-Smart Collaboration: Accelerating the Transition towards a Climate- Resilient Future” have produced a wealth of insights and recommendations. The symposium brought together experts, leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the pressing issues surrounding climate change and disaster risk reduction.

The International Symposium organized by the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management in Sri Lanka on the theme “Climate-Smart Collaboration: Accelerating the Transition towards a Climate- Resilient Future” have produced a wealth of insights and recommendations. The symposium brought together experts, leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the pressing issues surrounding climate change and disaster risk reduction.

A-PAD Sri Lanka's SAR Refresher Discussion on October 22, 2023, brought together civil and military experts to pave a path toward more effective Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

With representatives from esteemed organizations, including Capital Maharaja Group , Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC , Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Life Saving, & The Pearl Protectors the discussion showcased a commitment to excellence and collaboration within the A-PAD framework.
