Building Capacity for Faster Response: A-PAD Sri Lanka Joins International Logistics and Procurement Training in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Aug 25, 2025

In humanitarian emergencies, speed and precision in logistics can determine how quickly relief reaches communities in need. Every successful response depends on sound procurement decisions that save time, reduce costs, and uphold accountability.

A-PAD SL had the privilege of taking part in the first session of the Certified Humanitarian Procurement Professional (CHPP) Programme, held from 14–16 August 2025 at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The international training program on logistics and procurement was organised by HELP Logistics and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) for professionals in the Asia Pacific region.

This opportunity was made possible through Airlink Inc., a global humanitarian organization that delivers critical aid to communities in crisis by providing free airlift and logistical solutions. As a member of Airlink, A-PAD Sri Lanka was nominated to participate in the training and is grateful for the chance to strengthen internal procurement capacity and supply chain readiness. Representing A-PAD SL, Ms. Raeesha Ikram and Ms. Sandali Rupasinghe joined nearly 20 participants from across the Asia-Pacific.

Over the three days, participants engaged in interactive sessions covering the full procurement cycle – from sourcing and tendering to contract development and supplier performance. Tutor-led lectures, group exercises, and scenario-based learning created a hands-on environment where complex concepts were translated into practical tools for the field.

  • Day 1 focused on procurement fundamentals and category management, emphasizing how proactive planning, early supplier engagement, and strong partnerships can ensure cost-effective, ethical, and timely delivery of aid.
  • Day 2 dived into strategic sourcing and tendering, guiding participants on developing specifications, evaluating supplier proposals, and ensuring transparent and responsible supplier selection.
  • Day 3 centered on contract development, introducing essential legal principles and negotiation strategies to safeguard organizations, partners, and beneficiaries alike.

For A-PAD Sri Lanka, the learnings were particularly valuable. Insights on market analysis, supplier engagement, and responsible sourcing directly align with A-PAD’s mission to deliver effective and accountable disaster response. The training also reinforced the importance of building resilient supply chains through strong networks of ethical and credible partners.

The workshop provided not only technical knowledge but also a broader perspective on the role of procurement in safeguarding communities during crises. By integrating these best practices, A-PAD SL aims to strengthen its ability to deliver aid that is timely, transparent, and fit-for-purpose – ultimately saving more lives when it matters most.
