Swift Response at Little Adams Peak: Flying Ravana Team Complete Successful Mountain Rescue

Dec 23, 2025

A potentially fatal mountain rescue incident at Little Adams Peak on 18 December 2025 was successfully resolved through the swift coordination of Flying Ravana Adventure Park Team, demonstrating the value of advanced technical training and inter-agency collaboration.

At around 11:30 AM, an emergency alert was received reporting that a hiker had fallen while trekking. Responders arriving at the scene confirmed that a female tourist from the United Kingdom, had fallen approximately 80 metres from the main trail. The terrain was steep and unstable, with the rescue point located nearly 50 metres from the nearest safe anchor point, requiring a carefully planned technical rope rescue.

A-PAD SAR members, Mr. Oshada Madushanka and Mr. Rangana Dahanayake, who have undergone advanced Rope Rescue and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training in Taiwan, joined the operation alongside the Flying Ravana team. The skills and methodologies gained through this international training were directly applied on site, particularly in anchor establishment, load management, victim handling, and controlled evacuation in a high-risk environment.

Upon reaching the victim, the rescue team stabilized her condition, explained the evacuation procedure, and administered basic first aid. A secure rope rescue system was established, allowing for the safe and methodical evacuation of the victim from the difficult terrain. The operation reflected strong technical coordination, situational awareness, and adherence to international rescue standards.

Medical coordination was arranged in advance with the Suwaseriya (1990) ambulance service, and the victim was transferred to Badulla Base Hospital for further treatment, completing the rescue mission successfully by 1:30 PM.

“The mountain rescue operation at Mini Adam’s Peak was completed successfully. Knowledge and practical skills gained through the A-PAD rope rescue course had a significant impact on executing the rescue safely and efficiently in challenging terrain. Extending our sincere appreciation to A-PAD for the valuable training provided, and to all personnel involved for their professionalism and effective coordination”
