A-PAD SL Conducts Rope Rescue Refresher Training

Oct 13, 2024

A-PAD SL conducted a Rope Rescue refresher training on October 5th at Mount Lavinia Beach for 15 participants, with the goal of reinforcing crucial rescue skills in preparation for an advanced training session in Taiwan.

The day started with a comprehensive discussion, where participants reviewed key concepts of rope rescue, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects. Trainees practiced essential rope knots, including figure-eight, bowline, and prusik knots, which are vital for securing anchors, rescuing victims, and safely maneuvering in various high-risk situations. They also worked on advanced rope techniques like ascending and descending, simulating vertical rescue scenarios common in mountainous and urban environments.

The training further emphasized the technical use and maintenance of specialized equipment, including harnesses, carabiners, belay devices, and pulleys. Participants learned how to choose the right gear for different rescue situations and practiced proper setup and usage to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations.

Teamwork and communication were key themes throughout the session, as trainees collaborated on mock rescue exercises, simulating real-world challenges like high-angle rescues and victim stabilization. These practical drills allowed participants to apply their refreshed knowledge in high-pressure environments, enhancing both their confidence and readiness.

The session concluded with a debrief, where participants reflected on their performance, discussed areas for improvement, and received personalized feedback from instructors. Certificates were awarded to all participants, recognizing their dedication to maintaining and improving their life-saving skills. This intensive training ensures that A-PAD SL’s rescue teams remain well-prepared for any future emergencies.
