A-PAD SL Participates in Camp Coordination and Camp Management Training by IOM

Apr 27, 2026

A-PAD SL was represented at the two-day basic Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) training held on April 23-24, 2026 at National Institute of Cooperative Development in Kandy. The training was facilitated by IOM on behalf of the Shelter, Land & Site Coordination (SLSC) Sector and brought together government officials, civil society organizations, NGOs, and INGOs in Kandy and Kegalle.

The comprehensive training covered essential themes including an introduction to CCCM and the roles and responsibilities of CCCM actors in managing temporary sites, safety centers, and camp-like settings. The importance of upholding the key humanitarian principles and maintaining strong code of conduct was also emphasized.

Furthermore, the training walked participants through the importance of promoting community participation which serves as a strong foundation for camp management and the critical need for maintaining accountability to affected populations (AAP).

Participants also explored protection mainstreaming and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), coordination and information management best practices, and the complete site life cycle from setup through management to closure. The training underscored that camps are a last resort and emphasized the critical need to pursue durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The comprehensive training featured numerous group exercises designed to help participants think from the perspective of affected populations and better understand their role as humanitarian workers during camp coordination and management. The participants also shared their experiences related to serving affected populations following Cyclone Ditwah and the challenges faced during camp management. The engagement reinforced the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration and information integrity during crises.
