A-PAD SL SAR Team Sharpens Rope Rescue Skills in Refresher Training

Targeting the rope rescue capabilities of the A-PAD SL Search and Rescue team, a comprehensive refresher training was recently organised to enhance both individual and team skills. The course brought together responders from various backgrounds,  and the training saw an exceptional turnout of both men and women reflecting the growing diversity within technical rescue teams today.

The session opened with instructors underscoring the importance of constant safety checks throughout every exercise, encouraging participants to treat each training session as a real life  emergency call. This safety-first mindset set the tone for the rest of the programme, which progressed methodically from foundational skill-building exercises to complex, scenario-based simulations that tested the team’s readiness under realistic conditions.

Highlighting the group training to enhance team coordination among the SAR team members, a hands-on practice session included exercises targeting high-angle rope rescue techniques, alongside zipline training. The session exercises brought attention of the responders to the discussion of proper technical execution , enhancing and strengthening trust and communication among responders in the team. The programme also featured a mock incline victim rescue scenario, in which team members worked together to safely transfer a simulated victim, putting their coordination, technical skills, and decision-making to the test.

Running throughout the training was a strong emphasis on individual skill development. The day included dedicated sessions focused on refreshing ascending and descending techniques of each individual rescuer. This initiative ensured that  every participant, regardless of experience level, walked away with sharper technical proficiency to complement the team-based exercises.

The session successfully completed with the team enhancing and refreshing their capabilities and brushing up on stronger coordination with fellow responders. The blend of technical drills, safety reinforcement, and team-building activities reflects A-PAD SL’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a highly skilled, adaptable, and diverse SAR team.

Looking ahead, A-PAD SL plans to continue these refresher sessions on a recurring basis, ensuring that the team’s rope rescue capabilities remain sharp and current for the community it serves.
