We are proud to share that A-PAD Sri Lanka has been featured in the Asahi Shimbun Digital, one of Japan’s leading news outlets. The article, written by the acclaimed journalist Ms. Noriko Akiyama, highlights the vital role our volunteer-based Search and Rescue (SAR) team plays in disaster preparedness and emergency response in Sri Lanka.
The piece covers our recent Swift Water Search and Rescue Refresher Training held on the 1st of February 2025, showcasing the rigorous preparation our members undergo to respond to floods. From lifeguards and military officers to doctors and corporate professionals, our 160-member team brings together people from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared mission to protect communities in times of crisis.
Since 2017, A-PAD Sri Lanka has been conducting SAR trainings, working at the intersection of government, private sector, and civil society to build a coordinated, resilient disaster response system. We are grateful for the continued support from Japan and other partners that helps make our work possible.
