Art of Resilience: 20 Years After the Tsunami – A Workshop for Renewal and Preparedness

Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka together with the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo hosted a Drawing Workshop titled “Resilience and Renewal: 20 Years Since the Tsunami” on the 1st of August 2024. Targeting undergraduates of the Faculty of Arts, this workshop was part of a broader art exhibition to held later this month, commemorating two decades since the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the long-term impact of the tsunami while emphasizing the importance of disaster preparedness. Through artistic expression, students explored themes of resilience, recovery, and renewal, reflecting on how Sri Lanka and its people had rebuilt and strengthened their communities in the years following the catastrophe. The event served as a powerful reminder of the need for continued vigilance and preparation in the face of potential natural disasters.
