IRB Refresher Training for the SAR team

IRB Refresher Training for the SAR team

Feb 26, 2026

On 4th February 2026, our Search and Rescue (SAR) team took part in a hands-on IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Refresher Training at Mount Lavinia Beach designed to reinforce water rescue capabilities and boost operational confidence. With disasters striking without warning, preparedness is not optional but  it is essential.

The session brought responders back to the basics  and beyond. From precise IRB maneuvering and controlled high-speed navigation to OBM (Outboard Motor) inspection and troubleshooting, the training emphasized both technical accuracy and rapid decision making. Teams practiced launch and recovery drills, victim approach techniques, and coordinated communication under simulated emergency conditions.

Realistic flood response scenarios pushed participants to think fast, work as a unit, and prioritize safety at every step. Special attention was given to ensuring all team members were properly equipped with life jackets and essential protective gear, conducting thorough equipment inspections, maintaining clear crew coordination, and carrying out risk assessments before deployment, reinforcing the principle that effective rescue begins with safe and disciplined preparation.

The refresher was not just about revisiting skills, but about strengthening teamwork, improving efficiency, and ensuring every team member remains confident and field-ready.
