LNBTI Collaborates with A-PAD SL to Support Cyclone Ditwah Recovery

Jun 23, 2026

Representatives from the Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute (LNBTI) visited A-PAD Sri Lanka’s office on 15 June 2026, marking the start of a collaboration grounded in a shared commitment to community wellbeing. The visit was led by Prof. Ananda Kumara, Vice Chancellor and President of LNBTI, and Prof. Manjula Sandirigama, Director of the institute’s Global Centre, who were welcomed by A-PAD SL team.

LNBTI presented a generous donation to support communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, drawn from surplus proceeds the institute received through a cybersecurity-related competition. At LNBTI’s request, the funds will go toward educational initiatives for affected communities βˆ’ an area where A-PAD SL has a strong track record of designing and delivering school-focused recovery programmes.

The discussion also explored where the two organisations’ strengths could intersect. LNBTI is the first and only Japanese higher education institute in Sri Lanka, offers ICT degree programmes approved by the Ministry of Education and recognised by the University Grants Commission, equipping students with technical skills alongside language proficiency. Building on this, both sides discussed the possibility of LNBTI students contributing to the establishment of a Business Emergency Operations Center (BEOC) unit at A-PAD SL – potentially as part of their academic projects or internships. Looking ahead, the two organisations identified disaster risk reduction (DRR) through innovative technology as a shared area of interest for future collaboration.

The meeting closed with a strong mutual understanding between A-PAD SL and LNBTI, laying the groundwork for an evolving partnership centred on strengthening community resilience through education, technology, and collaborative innovation.
