A-PAD Provides Clean Drinking Water Facilities for Students in the Nuwara Eliya District

As part of its commitment to supporting communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, A-PAD SL distributed 10 ROAM water filtration systems to schools in the Nuwara Eliya District. The systems were donated by Relief Singapore, with airfreight assistance provided by Airlink, and the distribution was implemented by A-PAD with logistical support from the Council for Business with Britain. In coordination with the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat, schools in Walapane and Kotmale were identified as priority locations due to their urgent need for access to clean and safe drinking water.

Following a joint needs assessment conducted by the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat, Walapane Divisional Secretariat, and Kotmale Divisional Secretariat, it was determined that many communities continue to face challenges in accessing purified water. As children and staff are particularly vulnerable to water-borne diseases, four schools in Walapane and six schools in Kotmale were identified as the most in need of access to safe and clean drinking water.

To ensure sustainable and proper use, A-PAD provided hands-on training on the operation and maintenance of the water filters. During the sessions, practical options for integrating the water filters into existing water supply systems were also presented, reinforcing long-term confidence. The distribution events saw strong engagement from principals, teachers, school development officers, and students, who participated in the training sessions and expressed appreciation for the support provided.
