Gammadda joins forces to raise Disaster Preparedness
The Floods/Landslides of years 2016 & 2017 resulted in the loss of over 500 human lives. Thus, A-PAD Sri Lanka joined hands with The Capital Maharaja Organization in better preparing vulnerable communities who fall prey in the event of these calamities. Stepping into rapid action of an actual community campaign, A-PAD SL along with the Sirasa Gammadda Program took to the streets of 5 districts(Ratnapura, Matara,Galle & Kalutara) on the 5,6,7,& 18th of May 2018 spreading the message of preparedness. The Gammadda program which was launched in 2013 has a vast reach within the grass-root communities around the island and thus, we reached out to thousands of families who have been either previously affected by the disaster or who are prone for potential damage. Yet another significant factor about this initiative was the active participation of Private sector volunteers who were channeled through the A-PAD platform. Their presence and expertise was a value addition to households as well as Small/Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
