Another CPR training for the Private sector conclu Another CPR training for the Private sector concluded successfully today at the A-PAD SL country office. A cohort of 25 participants were trained in CPR and AED and are now internationally certified. ✅

This training was aimed at preparing the participants for occupational hazards as occupational safety and health must be given importance at all times and especially during these trying times. 

We extend our thanks to Capital Maharaja Group for trusting our expertise in disaster mitigation and occupational safety and would like to thank our partner @srilankalifesaving for conducting the training successfully.
The A-PAD Search and Rescue team successfully conc The A-PAD Search and Rescue team successfully concluded the first CPR training session for the year 2022 on the 5th of July at the A-PAD SL Country office. 

25 participants who took part in the program are now certified in CPR and AED! 

We extend our thanks to our dedicated trainers Mr. Asanka Nanayakkara and Mr. Samith Thilina from Sri Lanka Life Saving for their continued commitment towards helping our platform build a resilient community and would like to thank our private sector members Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC, Capital Maharaja Group, Adventure.lk, Kevilton Electrical Products and many more who took part in this training program.

In light of the current economic crisis in Sri Lan In light of the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka, A-PAD Bangladesh donated a generous amount of vital and essential medicine to the Ministry of Health(MoH) at the A-PAD SL office premises. 

The procured medicine were officially handed over to Mr. Palitha Wickramage from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat by A-PAD Bangladesh facilitated by  the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and A-PAD SL. 

We take the opportunity to thank A-PAD  Bangladesh for taking the initiative to support Sri Lanka by providing the means for the procurement of pediatric-related medication.

This benevolent gesture and the constant support is highly appreciated and will help immensely towards building resilient communities in Sri Lanka.

A-PAD SL together with Connecting Business initiat A-PAD SL together with Connecting Business initiative and UNDP Sri Lanka have been supporting communities of the Southern Province to build disaster resilience among MSMEs in the Tourism Sector in Sri Lanka. 

This initiative consisted of a series of Capacity Building Programmes that took place in Galle, Matara, and Hambantota, scaling up to other regions such as the Eastern province and Jaffna. 

To complete this timely initiative, over 120 MSMEs with 50% of them being women, were provided with customized business diversification support in collaboration with the Ruhunu Tourism Bureau, Galle, Matara & Hambantota Chambers of Commerce, UNDP Sri Lanka and A-PAD SL. 

The event took place on the 30th and the 31st of March in Galle, Matara and Hambantota respectively.

We’d like to thank our partners, our facilitators and most importantly our participants for the continued support rendered towards completing this timely initiative successfully.

A-PAD Sri Lanka in partnership with @undpsrilanka A-PAD Sri Lanka in partnership with @undpsrilanka and the Connecting Business Initiative (CBI) completed a yet another series of MSME Resilience workshops in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. 

Entrepreneurs belonging to both services and manufacturing sector were present at these trainings with enthusiasm and interest. These engaging sessions have now led towards product innovation along with inclusivity of disaster resilience into their business plans.

A-PAD in partnership with @undpsrilanka and Connec A-PAD in partnership with @undpsrilanka and Connecting Business initiative provided a training program in the Northern Province for MSMEs engaged in handcrafts on 21st March at Yal Beach Hotel, Point Pedro.

The training was based on disaster risk reduction , business continuity and market opportunities, encouraging robust interaction among the MSMEs. Following the workshop, the participants also displayed an array of locally sourced handcrafts to the officials present at the event.

Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka
An international introductory training session specializing in Rope technical rescue in disasters organized by A-PAD SL is currently being held at the Ranweli Resort, Waikkal.

The training is carried out by trainers from Taiwan and Japan who are specialized in the field of rope rescue and is aimed at providing a comprehensive introductory session on rope rescue technicalities required to compliment the swift water knowledge acquired thus far and most importantly for life saving!

Participants will be receiving a thorough training on how to handle equipment, adjustment of basic knots, handling personal protective equipment in rope rescue and knot pass technology for life saving!

In collaboration with Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS), the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Sri Lanka held a CPR Training Course at its headquarters in Colombo on the 5th of July, 2022.

The training was conducted under A-PAD’s Search and Rescue (SAR) initiative for 30 participants from private sector organizations, as well as search and rescue representatives and volunteers. Technical expertise for the training was provided by Mr. Asanka Nanayakkara (President, SLLS) and Mr. Samith Thilina (Trainer/Senior Instructor, SLLS), who carried out both theoretical and practical training sessions. 

A-PAD facilitates these CPR Training courses with the overall objective to sensitize and ensure that all the participants involved can provide vital assistance in the event of any disaster, occupational hazard or community emergency. Once the participants had completed the training programme, they were awarded an internationally recognized license and certification.
A-PAD Bangladesh in partnership with Community Initiative Society (CIS) and Dhaka Community Hospital Trust (DCHT) provided significant means for the procurement of pediatric oncology priorities, with special consideration for the health and safety of the children of Sri Lanka.  This gesture of goodwill was coordinated by A-PAD Sri Lanka and facilitated by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in consultation with the Ministry of Health.

A-PAD Bangladesh representatives handed over the consignment of vital and essential medicine to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat for use by hospitals directed by the Ministry of Health.  

In view of this occasion, representatives from A-PAD Bangladesh, CIS and DCHT, visited the country while also present were Mr. Palitha Wickramage from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Maj. Gen. Sudantha Ranasinghe - Director General, DMC, and Mr. Firzan Hashim - Country Director, A-PAD SL.
Project Phoenix was birthed to life following the devastating Easter Sunday Attacks in 2019. An early recovery tri-partite partnership between HSBC (principal sponsor) and implementing partners A-PAD Sri Lanka and Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, Phoenix has seen 2 years of completion. Embracing hope, our survivor families have come a long way towards recovery and a new normalcy. This video captures our two year journey with the Project Phoenix families
The A-PAD Search and Rescue team of Sri Lanka recently carried out a basic first responder's skill level training for the Village Disaster Management Committee members of Mannar and Mullaitivu Districts. The training was carried out in partnership with the Disaster Management Centre and World Vision Lanka. A total of 50 youth and volunteers were trained at Aruvi Aaru (Malwathu Oya) of Nanattan, Mannar.
