The Sixth Session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction and Economic and Social Commission Asia Pacific (ESCAP) Disaster Resilience Week was held in Bangkok, Thailand. A multi-sectoral session was organized by the Connecting Business Initiative (CBi) to identify successful outcomes of having combined existing resources to be effectively utilized in the disaster management field, in a number of countries. The objective of this session was to explore policies and best practices that could enable effective private sector engagement in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response and recovery. Representing the private sector, Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL), a member of the CBi network, participated at the event in sharing local and regional success stories of decentralizing disaster management, streamlining policy mechanisms in Civil/ Military Co-operation (CIMIC) as well as nationalizing/reforming private sector engagement in disaster management.
