“Through the floods” – The Lion Brewery Story
“We can now withstand any flood situation.”
On the 4th of December 2018, A-PAD SL facilitated a visit and guided tour to the Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC factory located in Biyagama for members of the Private Sector, as well as selected government official from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Disaster Management Centre. Lion Brewery, which was greatly affected by the floods of 2016, presented real-time data and decisions taken during the flooding period, as well as an in-depth guideline detailing steps to be taken after succumbing to a disaster.
The CEO of Lion Brewery, Mr. Suresh Shah, was also present and addressed the attendants on his mindset and critical choices made during and after the flooding crisis the company underwent. Mr. Shah was gracious enough to answer questions from the attendants on various aspects from insurance to supply-chain management, to disaster risk reduction and recovery, providing clear perspective on the crisis from the upper echelon of senior management.
