Training on Disaster Risk Reduction, Management and Resilience for Undergraduates

Mar 9, 2023

A-PAD SL conducted a training on Disaster Risk Reduction practices for both undergraduates and the academic staff of the University of Colombo. The session was a success with 28 participants, including academic staff and undergraduates.

Supported through the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, the technical expertise for the training was delivered by Ms. Michelle Joseph (A-PAD SL representative), and Mr. Firzan Hashim, the Country Director of A-PAD SL, shared his insights with the participants during the discussion.

The purpose of conducting the session was to prepare participants to prevent new risks and mitigate existing ones through early preparedness. In tandem with this, participants were educated in emergency response and evacuation plans that can be incorporated into the faculty system.

As a significant component of the training, participants were educated about the importance of incorporating an Activity Continuity Plan in terms of the continuation of academic elements to withstand the impacts of interruptions and continue functioning.
