A-PAD Search and Rescue 2022 – CPR Training 1
In collaboration with Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS), the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Sri Lanka held a CPR Training Course at its headquarters in Colombo on the 5th of July, 2022.
The training was conducted under A-PAD’s Search and Rescue (SAR) initiative for 30 participants from private sector organizations, as well as search and rescue representatives and volunteers. Technical expertise for the training was provided by Mr. Asanka Nanayakkara (President, SLLS) and Mr. Samith Thilina (Trainer/Senior Instructor, SLLS), who carried out both theoretical and practical training sessions.
During the training sessions, participants were educated on the importance of CPR and that it is an essential life skill which enables one to provide vital life-saving assistance in crisis situations. In addition, participants were instructed on how to assess the danger of the situation, to figure out if CPR needs to be performed on an individual or not, the ethics of performing CPR, and even how to perform CPR on children and infants. Further to this, participants were also trained on how to use recently developed CPR technology, such as the AED Defibrillator.
A-PAD facilitates these CPR Training courses with the overall objective to sensitize and ensure that all the participants involved can provide vital assistance in the event of any disaster, occupational hazard or community emergency. Once the participants had completed the training programme, they were awarded an internationally recognized license and certification.
