Mar 24, 2023

The Search and Rescue (SAR) team of the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL) took part in a refresher training on the 18th of March 2023 at Mount Lavinia Beach. A cohort of 16 civil personnel who have undergone SAR Level 1 and Level 2 training took part in this training.

The training was aimed at refreshing the knowledge and technical skills of the team members according to international standards. A variety of drills, including Inflatable Boat Rescue (IRB) techniques, rope rescue techniques, and swim techniques, were performed by the team.

The event was graced by Mr. Rajiv Meewakkala, CEO and Executive Director of Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC. Speaking at the event, Mr. Meewakkala highlighted the importance of community-level SAR training, which would be beneficial in times of disaster, and the A-PAD SL’s initiative was highly appreciated.

After completing the training successfully, the participants received a locally recognized certification. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Embassy of Japan, the People of Japan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan for the continuous support given in conducting such training.
