[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A-PAD Sri Lanka has been closely monitoring the severe weather changes that have been creating a stir in the climate causing gusty winds and heavy rains, around the island. The Meteorological Department of Sri Lanka states that the depression that occurred in the South-west of Sri Lanka has developed into a deep depression. It is now located 200 km away from Colombo and is expected to develop further, and move to the Arabian Sea area. According to the Met Department, heavy rains and gusty winds, of about 60-70 kmph, is to be expected over the country.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Whilst the weather continues to cause damage around the island, an emergency meeting is currently taking place with the guidance of Hon. Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and several stakeholders, at the Ministry of Disaster Management.

In the meantime, A-PAD Sri Lanka’s volunteer Search & Rescue Team has been actively engaging in emergency response activities, clearing roads which hinders road traffic due to fallen trees and other obstacles.
