North-East Monsoon 2019 preparedness by Sri Lanka

Since early November 2019, predictions of rainfall in the North, East, North Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces of Sri Lanka was forecasted by the Meteorology Department. In correlation to the forecast, nine districts were recipients of floods, high winds and landslides. Rains exceeding 200mm were experienced in certain areas as well. Given the detrimental situation created, the Disaster Management Center assembled a consultation chaired by the Secretary to Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial and Local Government. Discussions were later carried on the national preparatory and readiness plans to overcome hazardous interruptions caused by the unreliable weather conditions.
