ZERO DEATH CAMPAIGN Flood /Landslide Early Warning 2019 – Kalutara

May 19, 2019

A-PAD Sri Lanka in partnership with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) & Sirasa Gammadda kicked started the first street campaign on the 16th of May 2019. Reaching out to the three most vulnerable divisions of Kalutara Administrative District, namely Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, Walallawita, the campaign saw participation from 650 families.

Special guests from national and local authorities along with military personnel attended the campaign in promoting early preparedness amongst the flood/landslide prone communities. A special feature of the program was the segment led by Sri Lanka Life Saving in demonstrating basic CPR and localized water survival techniques using plastic water bottles and school bags.

Private sector members from MAS Intimate, MAS Bodyline and Dialog Axiata were present as volunteers who engaged with the community members in providing business tips for SMEs and CBOs. They also distributed leaflets/posters on disaster preparedness along with an awareness sticker which was pasted on passer by vehicles.
