Strengthening Hotel Resilience to Disasters with Aitken Spence
The Aitken Spence Group, which has strong regional presence across various sectors including the hospitality industry, has long recognized the need to be better prepared ahead of potential hazards and disasters. With the tourism sector playing a major role in contributing to the national GDP, the blue-chip conglomerate has identified the need to institutionalize resilience and continuity both within and outside their businesses. Significantly, they also desire to introduce and create hotel resilience as a trend and culture.
As such, Aitken Spence Hotel Management in partnership with APAD SL conducted an awareness program on “disaster and emergency planning” at two Aitken Spence hotel locations, namely – Tuuryaa, Kalutara and Heritance Kandalama. The awareness program designed by APAD SL enabled the Aitken Spence staff to identify different dimensions of disaster risk reduction such as the understanding of disasters and reducing risks; ensuring safety and security of guests and employees; recognizing specific disaster risk reduction steps for business continuity and better emergency planning and preparedness.
