Launch of the Election document- Right to Vote Amidst Disasters
Prior to the Presidential Elections held on the 16th of November 2019, the Disaster Management Center worked jointly with the Election Commission of Sri Lanka and A-PAD Sri Lanka to launch a detailed national document. The said document comprised of guidelines and operational plans to assist in better preparing and facing disasters during the entirety of the voting process. The primary aim of prompting the need to vote despite staggering weather conditions among voters was targeted through the dissemination of the national document. Along with the spread of document to relevant authorities and stakeholders, a Joint Election Emergencies Operation Unit (JEEOPs) was launched under the direct purview of the Chairman- Election Commission of Sri Lanka and the Secretary- Ministry of Public Administration, Disaster Management and Livestock Development.
